Do your dentures feel loose, uncomfortable, or cause sore spots? If you are experiencing discomfort or issues with your dentures, you may be due for a reline. Denture relining can restore comfort and improve fit by reshaping the tissue side of the denture. At Quality Dentures of Fredericksburg, we provide expert reline services that add a new layer of material to the inside of your dentures. This process helps your dentures fit snugly and function properly, giving you the confidence to smile, eat, and speak without worry.

Relines are necessary when the shape of your jaw and gum line changes. This is a natural occurrence due to bone loss caused by missing teeth. Over time, this change can cause ill-fitting dentures that slip and make everyday tasks, such as talking and eating, difficult. For optimum denture use and comfort, Quality Dentures of Fredericksburg ensures each patient lives comfortably with their teeth. Schedule your free consultation today and discover how a reline can make your dentures feel like new again.

Reline Options

We offer several reline options to suit your needs. Each patient is different, and our staff knows that. Every case is treated with care and efficiency. Our goal is to create the best possible fit, so we work closely with each patient to resolve issues and reline the denture as effectively as possible. Learn more about each reline option, when it’s used, and how it is performed below.

Hard Relines

A hard acrylic reline for dentures is a permanent, long-lasting solution to fix a loose, ill-fitting denture. This is typically performed when bone loss occurs, or natural gum shrinkage after teeth are lost or extracted. Hard relines provide a durable solution that can last up to five years, restoring stability and support for your dentures.

Hard relines are done by removing excess acrylic on the denture, then creating a new mold of the patient’s mouth by using a putty substance for impressions. This mold is then used to make a permanent replacement of the inside tissue of the denture.

Soft Relines

A soft reline is performed to provide a cushioning effect for patients. This is performed when someone has sensitive gums or significant bone loss. A soft reline can be made from a soft acrylic or silicone to the tissue side of a denture. This provides a pliable cushion to relieve discomfort. Soft relines can reduce painful sore spots and fill gaps between the reline and shrinking tissue, improving suction and helping the denture stick better.

Soft relines are done by creating a new mold of the patient’s mouth and filling the gaps with soft material to create a custom, comfortable fit. These soft relines typically last up to 2 years before needing replacement.

Lab-Processed Relines

A lab-processed reline is often a hard, durable resurfacing of the denture to improve both fit and durability. This eliminates gaps and can reduce the need for replacing the adhesive very often. This reduces pressure points and allows for more efficient chewing. This is needed when dentures become loose, click, or cause sores. These are signals that the jawbone has changed, and the base no longer fits.

For cases requiring precise customization, lab-processed relines reshape the interior surface of your denture using an impression that matches your mouth’s contours, ensuring maximum comfort and fit.

Causes for a Reline

Over time, natural changes in the mouth, such as bone loss or gum shrinkage, can cause dentures to become loose or uncomfortable. These changes can be noticed through discomfort and an unstable fit. Regular relining every 1–2 years can prevent discomfort, improve function, and extend the life of your dentures. If you notice any changes in the performance and usability of your dentures, it may be a good time to get a consultation with a dental professional.

Common Reline Services

Our common reline services include hard relines that provide a durable, long-term fit, soft relines designed for patients with sensitive gums, and lab-processed relines that deliver precise customization for improved comfort.

Our office also offers bite and alignment adjustments to help your dentures fit and function properly. A properly fitting denture can have a huge impact not only on your mouth but also on your overall health and confidence. When dentures do not fit properly, eating can become uncomfortable, and patients may miss out on important nutrients. Misfitting dentures can make talking and smiling uncomfortable, making one’s confidence decline. It is important to make sure your dentures fit and function properly.
